Odessa Chamber of Commerce Remembers Victims of 2019 Mass Shooting

 

ODESSA, TX – With the second anniversary of the Midland-Odessa mass shooting a day away, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce is preparing to honor the fallen victims.

The chamber set to the task of displaying the yellow ‘Odessa Strong’ flags in Memorial Gardens Park. The flags feature the names of the victims killed in the shooting.

The victims were:

  • 29-year-old Mary Granados
  • 25-year-old Eritizi Peregrino
  • 15-year-old Leilah Hernandez
  • 40-year-old Joe Griffith
  • 57-year-old Rudy Arco
  • 30-year-old Kameron Brown 
  • 34-year-old Raul Garcia

“It’s a thing a community can’t prepare for, and it’s a thing you hope your community never has to face. But we did. It’s part of our history," said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Renee Earls. "Our community really stepped up, and it makes me proud as an Odessan that we are here to help our neighbor."

In connection with several organizations, the Odessa Chamber of Commerce has raised $1.3 million in donations to support the families of the victims.

The flags will remain on display for the next week.
