Texas Rangers Investigating Officer Involved Shooting in Midland

 

MIDLAND— The Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting that took place in Midland Friday morning.

Around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2023, Midland Police officers responded to a potential stabbing at the 800 block of I-20. While officers were trying to detain the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Andrew R. Rodriguez, he charged at an officer with a knife. That officer drew his service weapon and fired at Rodriguez, killing him at the scene.

Due to Midland Police Department protocol, the Texas Rangers will take the lead on the investigation and the Rodriguez’s family has been notified.
