Body Recovered After Drowning at Lake Brownwood

LAKE BROWNWOOD, TX — A 26-year-old Brownwood man’s body was recovered Monday morning after he drowned at Lake Brownwood a day earlier.

According to BrownwoodNews.com, the incident occurred when Tyler Massey jumped off a pier while swimming Sunday.

“He jumped off the fishing pier at Flat Rock Park just swimming, and apparently he wasn’t a very good swimmer, that’s what the family reported,” Brad Reeves, Game Warden with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, told BrownwoodNews.com. “He jumped off the pier and was just having fun, but he went under and didn’t resurface. It appears to be a swimming mishap.”

Flat Rock Park is located on the southern part of the lake, a few miles from Lake Brownwood State Park.

Recovery efforts were initially halted Sunday evening due to storms in the area.

“We started operations within 35 minutes of him going under once we got all our equipment here and worked until midnight last night when the storms started blowing in, and we had to stop operations,” Reeves said. “We got back here at 6:30 a.m. and found him a little bit after 8 a.m.”
