SNYDER, TX — A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck early Monday morning about 14 miles southwest of Snyder, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The quake occurred at 4:22 a.m. at a depth of 4 miles (6.5 kilometers). It was followed by two smaller tremors measuring 1.6 and 1.9 in magnitude.
As of mid-morning, the USGS had received 29 reports through its "Did You Feel It?" system, with shaking described as weak to light and even moderate in the immediate area.
Preliminary ShakeMap data showed weak shaking near the epicenter, with little to no felt effects in distant cities such as Lubbock, Midland, and Abilene.
Aftershock probabilities remain low, with less than a 5% chance of a magnitude 4 or greater event in the coming week, according to USGS forecasts.
