FRISCO, TX — A second 16-year-old girl has died following a sledding accident in Frisco last weekend.
Gracie Brito reportedly died Tuesday night at a hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the crash. The other victim, Elizabeth Angle, also 16, died shortly after the accident Sunday. Both girls were sophomores at Wakeland High School.
Police received a call around 2:30 p.m. Sunday from an uninvolved party reporting a sledding incident near the intersection of Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. Preliminary investigations indicate the girls were riding on a sled being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 16-year-old boy, according to police.
Witnesses told officers the sled struck a curb and then collided with a tree. When police and fire crews arrived, both girls were found with life-threatening injuries and were given emergency aid before being transported to local hospitals.
Frisco police said they are continuing to investigate the incident and are working with the Denton County District Attorney’s Office to determine any next steps.
The deaths come amid a surge in sledding-related injuries after snow blanketed North Texas last weekend. Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth reported treating 52 sledding injuries in the past week involving patients ranging in age from 2 to 17, according to Fox News.
