SONORA, TX — A West Texas ranch with features that include caves and a "diamond mine" is being offered for $9.76 million.
Champion Angora Ranch, a 4,795-acre property on the outskirts of Sonora in the Edwards Plateau, has been held by the same family for nearly a century.
The ranch, named for its history of producing award-winning angora goats, was brought to market Tuesday, Feb. 10. It is listed by Ruple Properties.
The offering combines two parcels and is almost twice the size of the ranch’s footprint when it was last listed in 2024. It is the first time all of the acreage has been offered together in nearly 100 years.
The ranch features rolling limestone hills, rugged ridges, open prairies and native flora characteristic of the Edwards Plateau.
The six-bedroom main home, known as Casa Piedra, dates to 1900 and spans about 7,000 square feet. Renovated between 2020 and 2022, the cement-constructed residence has thick walls that earned it the nickname “the Fortress,” according to the real estate listing.
The property served as a full-time residence until a few years ago and has since been leased to cattle tenants and hunters. Wildlife on the ranch includes white-tailed deer, Axis deer, dove, quail and turkey.
The listing also highlights exploration features, including the “Big John Cave,” discovered in the 1930s and located on the southern parcel, and an area known as the “Diamond Mine,” described as rich in calcite with amber-colored, gem-like rocks.
The Champion Angora Ranch is located just east of the Mayfield Ingram Ranch, which is home to the Caverns of Sonora.
