MINERAL WELLS, TX — A tornado struck the town of Mineral Wells on Tuesday evening, causing widespread damage, though no fatalities have been reported.
The tornado hit just after 5:10 p.m. in the town of about 15,000 people located 55 miles west of Fort Worth.
The National Weather service confirmed Wednesday that a tornado touched down about three miles east of town, hitting the Country Club Estates community before traveling southeast toward the National Vietnam War Museum.
The tornado was estimated to be an EF-2 or EF-3 category storm.
City officials reported that two people were taken to hospitals for treatment, while several others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
It is unclear how many families have been displaced by the storm.
Last weekend, two people were killed when tornadoes hit the communities of Runaway Bay and Spingtown northwest of Fort Worth.
Rain remains in the forecast for the Dallas-Fort Worth area through Friday, though the threat of severe weather remains low, according to the NWS.
