Missing Woman Found Dead at Enchanted Rock

FREDERICKSBURG, TX — An 81-year-old woman who was reported missing was found dead at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area on Wednesday morning, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Her identity has not been released.

The woman reportedly became lost on the park’s Loop Trail on Tuesday afternoon. Several counties sent agencies to help with the search, but they were hindered multiple times by storms.

She was found dead about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Texas State Park Police will be taking the lead on the investigation.

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, which sits on the border of Llano and Gillespie counties in the Texas Hill Country, is a popular site for hikers. Its signature feature is its namesake hill, a 425-pink granite dome.

The woman was hiking on a 4.6-mile trail that is described as moderate/difficult and traverses the perimeter of the park.

This is the second incident this month at Enchanted Rock that required search-and-rescue crews. An injured hiker spent the night in the park before being rescued May 2.
