Community Rallies Behind Dog Intentionally Set on Fire

SAN ANTONIO, TX — In a heart-wrenching incident, a dog named Phoenix is on the road to recovery after enduring severe abuse near San Antonio. Discovered on a Nixon woman's front porch on Feb. 7, Phoenix's cries for help revealed the horrifying truth that she had been intentionally set on fire. The resilient pup, aptly named Phoenix for her ability to rise from the ashes, is now undergoing treatment at a San Antonio animal hospital.

Phoenix's plight has deeply resonated within the community, prompting an outpouring of support and compassion. Ashley Book, Medical Director at 4 Little Paws Rescue, expressed gratitude for the community's response, stating, "It's heartwarming to see people giving of themselves, and just their concern and care for Phoenix."

The extent of Phoenix's injuries is staggering; she has lost 90% of her fur, and her ears had to be amputated. 4 Little Paws Rescue, a San Antonio-based organization, stepped in to provide assistance, facilitating her treatment at a local animal hospital. Phoenix recently underwent her first surgery to remove burned skin, with a second surgery scheduled for the coming week.

Initially, Phoenix's kidney function was a significant concern due to dehydration, but positive progress has been made. Her kidney values have stabilized within normal limits, and her electrolytes are stabilizing, according to the Medical Director of 4 Little Paws Rescue in San Antonio, Texas.

The journey to recovery is not without challenges, as Phoenix requires extensive pain management. Her wounds, including abrasions and lacerations, are being treated, adding to the brave pup's resilience.

Community support for Phoenix has been overwhelming, with nearly $15,000 raised through a GoFundMe account and additional funds pouring in through Facebook and 4 Little Paws. Grateful for the outpouring of generosity, Medical Director Ashley Book stated, "We're eternally grateful for everything that everybody's given of themselves, and it's going to be put to good use."

Justice is being sought for Phoenix, with both the Nixon Police Department and the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office actively investigating the case. A reward, raised by concerned citizens, has been offered to help identify and apprehend the person responsible for this heinous act.

According to the Medical Director on the GoFundMe created for Phoenix, "Many areas of her Skin are falling off and has to be kept under 24/7 medical monitoring. Other surgeries are yet to come. The vet was astounded  that Phoenix didn’t go into Shock from the trauma she had suffered."

Why on earth would anyone do something like this to an innocent animal?

True justice would be having the same thing done to the person that committed this horror.  You who have read me before know I feel there are two types of people undeserving of compassion:  Those who abuse children, and those who abuse innocent animals.

I truly want the person who did this to feel the fires of Hell before he/she gets there.
