600 Catfish Stocked Ahead of San Angelo Youth Fishing Derby

SAN ANGELO, TX — Texas Parks and Wildlife has stocked 600 channel catfish near Oakes Street in downtown San Angelo just in time for the City’s annual Youth Fishing Derby, scheduled for Saturday morning at Celebration Bridge.

The event will be held June 7 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and is open to young anglers in three age categories: 1–6, 7–12, and 13–17. Prizes will be awarded to the top three participants in each group who catch the most fish, as well as the top three who catch the largest fish overall.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles and bait. Free donuts and juice will be available while supplies last.

The derby coincides with Texas’ Free Fishing Day, allowing all visitors to fish without a license on public waterways across the state.

The Celebration Bridge is located just below the South Oakes Street Bridge, behind the Museum of Fine Arts.
