SAN ANGELO, TX — The Texas Department of Public Safety has expanded its Aircraft Operations Division (AOD) to San Angelo, enhancing air support capabilities across a broad region from Del Rio to Lubbock.
The San Angelo unit currently operates both a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft, providing air support for law enforcement and emergency response missions. According to DPS, the division plays a key role in criminal surveillance, fugitive apprehension, and search and rescue operations.
This move is intended to strengthen the overall public safety network by supporting all DPS divisions as well as local, county, state, and federal agencies. The aircraft units assist in locating suspects, deterring criminal activity, and reinforcing border security through aerial patrols equipped with advanced technology.
AOD also partners with first responders to aid in disaster-related incidents, helping locate and recover individuals during emergencies.
"We are excited to bring this valuable service to the San Angelo area," DPS stated. "While residents may notice increased aerial activity, rest assured—it’s a friendly eye in the sky, dedicated to keeping our communities safe."
