WEDDINGTON, N.C. — A North Carolina man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he threw a large unauthorized party at a home where he was hired to do lawn maintenance.
Michael Brown, 37, allegedly took advantage of the homeowners' absence while they were on vacation, hosting a party for several hundred people at a residence Saturday.
Deputies said Brown even charged guests an entry fee.

The Union County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene after receiving complaints about noise and traffic hazards. When questioned, Brown first claimed to own the home, then said it belonged to his grandparents. After multiple conflicting stories, he finally admitted he was the lawn maintenance worker and had no connection to the property owners.
Due to the size of the crowd, additional officers from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol and NC Alcohol Law Enforcement joined sheriff's deputies in clearing the property. Several partygoers reportedly drove away recklessly, prompting multiple traffic stops.
Once the home was cleared, authorities discovered property damage. Brown was arrested and booked into the Union County Detention Center on the following charges: breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, injury to real property, and obtaining property by false pretenses.
"Just because you kill the weeds, doesn’t mean your name is on the deed," the Union County Sheriff's Office said.
Brown was issued a $10,000 secured bond and later released from custody. Sheriff's officials said he was reminded he was a guest — not a resident — of the detention center and advised him not to host any more parties while arranging his release.
