SAN ANTONIO, TX — A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged after allegedly threatening to kill former President Donald Trump ahead of his planned visit to the Texas Hill Country, federal authorities announced.
Robert Herrera was taken into custody Thursday and faces charges of making a terroristic threat against a public figure and interstate threatening communications, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Texas.
Authorities say Herrera posted a threatening message on Facebook in response to a San Antonio news outlet’s article about Trump’s upcoming trip. His comment included an image from the July 13, 2024, assassination attempt at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in which the former president was shot in the ear but survived. The caption read, “I won’t miss.”

Herrera, posting under the name "Robert Herrer," also allegedly replied to another commenter with, “I’ll just come for you,” accompanied by a photo of an assault rifle and loaded magazines, according to the Justice Department.
He was arrested the same day the alleged threats were posted.
Special Agent in Charge Aaron Tapp of the FBI's San Antonio Field Office released a statement following Herrera's arrest.
"While the FBI fully supports and defends every American's right to free speech, it is important to understand that threatening violence against any individual is not constitutionally protected speech; it is a federal crime. The FBI and our partners take threats of violence seriously, and we urge the public to do the same."
The investigation is being conducted by the FBI, U.S. Secret Service, San Antonio Police Department, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.
