HOLLYWOOD — The first trailer for the final season of Stranger Things has released online.
Netflix has dropped the first trailer for Stranger Things 5 after a super long wait, but it is enough to get fans excited for the upcoming season. The synopsis reads:
“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal” find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished – his whereabouts and plans unknown.
Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread.
The final battle is looming – and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they’ve faced before. To end this nightmare, they’ll need everyone – the full party – standing together, one last time.”
It all started nearly 10 years ago when the first season of Stranger Things was released on Netflix. In it, Will Byers goes missing after playing Dungeons and Dragons with his friends. While searching for Will, a little girl, Eleven, who has psychic powers, escapes from the Hawkins Lab and is found by Mike, Lucas, and Dustin, Will’s friends. Eventually, Will’s mother, Joyce, and the Hawkins Police Chief, Jim Hopper, have to go into another dimension, the Upside Down, and find Will while a creature from that dimension, the demogorgon, is hunting in Hawkins. The monster is banished, as is Eleven, and Will is found in the end.
In Season 2, Will is experiencing flashes of the Upside Down and a new monster, the Mind Flyer. Also, the Upside Down is “expanding” into Hawkins. Hopper found Eleven and is keeping her safe and the main kids in the series find another member, Max. The Mind Flyer possesses Will and demodogs are growing into demogorgons. The season ends with Eleven closing a gate to the Upside Down at Hawkins Lab, the Mind Flyer being forced out of Will, and everything seemingly going back to normal.
For Season 3, the bit of the Mind Flyer that was forced out of Will finds a new host, Max’s older brother, Billy. Also, the Russians are trying to reopen a gate into the Upside Down underneath the Starcourt Mall, newly constructed in Hawkins. After battling a physical version of the Mind Flyer and fighting the Russians, the heroes again close the gate but not without casualties. Hopper is believed to be dead, and Billy dies after resisting the Mind Flyer. The Byers and Eleven leave for California at the end of the season, and Eleven loses her psychic powers.
Last season, it turns out Hopper was captured by the Russians and is forced into a work camp. A new antagonist, Vecna, is killing teenagers in Hawkins, and the government believes that Eleven has a connection to the deaths. Mike and Dustin have joined the Hellfire Club, a dungeons and dragons group run by Eddie Munson, and Lucas joins the basketball team. Max, dealing with the death of Billy, is meeting with a therapist to deal with the trauma.
Eleven ends up back in the care of Dr. Martin Brenner, who was experimenting on her at the Hawkins Lab. Her powers end up being restored and we find out that 001, or Henry Creel, is Vecna, transformed into a monster after Eleven banishes him into the Upside Down (Dimension X now possibly).
The group discovers Vecna’s plan, and it takes all of them to try and stop him. In the end, he ends up successful but is beaten into hiding. This leads up to Season 5.
