FEMA Can Help Repair Your Vehicle

SAN ANGELO, TX - If your car, van or truck was damaged — inside or out — because of the storms and floods that struck Burnet, Kerr, San Saba, Tom Green, Travis and Williamson counties in July, you may qualify for assistance from FEMA.

FEMA wants to get you back on the road and may provide financial assistance to help repair or replace a disaster-damaged vehicle when you don’t have another vehicle you can use. Unlike most other forms of FEMA assistance, you do not need to live or work in one of the designated counties to be considered for this assistance.

Apply for FEMA Assistance

First, file a claim with your auto insurance company. FEMA may help cover losses that your insurance policy does not. If you don’t live in a designated county but your vehicle was damaged because you work in a designated county or were just visiting, you may qualify for help.

Reimbursement for the repair of storm-damaged vehicles is determined by the FEMA Individual Assistance program, and you must provide receipts. Here are the guidelines:

  • Damaged vehicle must be owned by the applicant or co-applicant at the time of the disaster and meet minimum requirements for liability insurance.
  • Applicant must not also own an undamaged vehicle, unless you can show a need for two vehicles such as separate transportation required for work, medical care, school or other essential purposes.
  • Verification that vehicle sustained damage due to the storms and flooding in a designated county.

If your damaged vehicle is not included in a housing inspection, the following items must be submitted to determine if you are eligible for FEMA help to repair or replace the vehicle:

  • Copy of registration valid on July 2, 2025
  • List of all vehicles owned and a brief description of damage caused by the flooding.
  • Verification of vehicle repair costs by a mechanic, receipt or estimate. This documentation must contain a mechanic’s statement that damage was a result of the storm and flooding.
  • Name of mechanic, company name, address and telephone number.
  • Vehicle insurance policy, stating coverage.
  • Insurance settlement or statement.
  • Statement describing why the vehicle is necessary for your household’s transportation needs.
  • Be sure to write your nine-digit FEMA registration number and the disaster number (DR-4879) on all the pages.

Documentation may be submitted at FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers, uploaded at DisasterAssistance.gov or mailed to:
