Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Effect for Tom Green and Irion Counties

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for parts of southwestern Tom Green and southeastern Irion counties, including areas near Mertzon and Knickerbocker, through 6 p.m. CDT Monday.

At 5:17 p.m., radar indicated a severe thunderstorm over Sherwood, moving southeast at 15 mph. The storm is producing wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of golf balls.

The National Weather Service said the storm is affecting areas in eastern Irion County and could move into western Tom Green County within the hour.

Hail may cause damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles, while strong winds could damage trees and structures. Residents in the storm’s path are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.

The warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. CDT.
