Bobcats' Defense Shines at Intrasquad Scrimmage

SAN ANGELO, TX — On Saturday night, August 16, the San Angelo Central Bobcats hosted their annual intrasquad after "Meet the Bobcats" at San Angelo Stadium. Fans were able to get a first look at Central's new QB1, Micah Smith, and also saw the 'Cats defense put on a dominating performance.

Head Coach Mark Smith gave his thoughts on his team's performance after the scrimmage. Watch that interview below:

With fans in attendance for the first time this season, Central conducted its normal practice through individual position drills before transitioning into the Bobcats' "good on good" scrimmage. The work that the defense put in this offseason was on display early as the offense failed to get much going.

The Cats' defense looked strong against the run and put enough pressure on Central's three quarterbacks to force some errant throws that led to interceptions, knockdowns, or even sacks.

On offense, newly named QB1, Micah Smith, showed off his arm in front of the Bobcat faithful. He completed several good throws toward the sidelines and over the middle and picked up several first downs on the ground. If there was any area where the young man looked to have needed work, it was on a few deep balls he let fly. He has the arm strength to get the ball down the field and only needs to add a bit of experience to find consistent accuracy to his speedy receivers.

Overall, it was a good day for defense but also an invaluable learning experience for the guys on the offensive side of the football. Smith reiterated in his post-game interview that both sides of the ball continue improving every day and that this squad will be looking forward to the Bobcats' next scrimmage against Del Rio.
