Abbott Renews Flood Disaster Declaration for Tom Green, Other Counties

AUSTIN, TX — Texas Governor Greg Abbott has renewed and amended a disaster declaration for Tom Green County and dozens of others following heavy rainfall and flash flooding that began in early July.

The proclamation, signed Wednesday, extends the disaster status for 30 counties, including Bandera, Bexar, Burnet, Caldwell, Coke, Comal, Concho, Edwards, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hamilton, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Kinney, Lampasas, Llano, Mason, Maverick, McCulloch, Menard, Real, Reeves, San Saba, Schleicher, Sutton, Tom Green, Travis, Uvalde, and Williamson

Abbott first issued the order on July 4 and has since renewed it to address widespread property damage, injuries, and loss of life caused by the storms.

Under the Texas Government Code, the order authorizes the use of all available state and local resources to respond to the disaster. It also suspends certain regulations, including provisions of the Family Code and Code of Criminal Procedure, that could slow emergency operations such as transferring bodies to families or securing contracts for disaster response.

The renewed declaration ensures state agencies can continue emergency efforts without delays for the duration of the disaster.
