WALL, TX — The Wall Hawks continue to prepare for the start of the 2025 football season with their second scrimmage against Breckenridge on Thursday. After a dominating performance against Early last Friday, the Hawks look to build on that success once again.
Practice remained high intensity this week. Wall's coaches had the players adjusting to the late summer heat. Head Coach Craig Slaughter said that despite the heat, he needs his guys operating at a high level.
"Obviously, with the heat, you have to be careful," Slaughter said. "You don't want to overdo it. But we had to turn our guys up a little bit today. They are here to work every day, and they know what our expectations are."
With temperatures well into the high 90s on Tuesday, the Hawks looked fired up, no matter how hot that turf felt.
A key piece to Wall's future success this season is QB1 Landon York. York enters his second year as the starting quarterback in 2025. He's been hard at work this summer refining his game. One area he's been particularly focused on is his touch on his deep passes. That work looks to have paid off, as during the scrimmage, York completed several deep balls that went for touchdowns.
York gave his thoughts on his team's performance in the scrimmage and what the Hawks still need to show before the season kicks off. Watch that interview below:
Wall truly looks to be a championship-caliber football team this season. While not perfect, the defense looks mean, and the offense will be dangerous. The Hawks still have a few kinks to work out before the games count, and fans will see how much they've progressed this week when Breckenridge comes to town.
Slaughter said that the scrimmage against Breckenridge will start with the freshman and junior varsity teams at 5:30 p.m. The varsity will take the field immediately after.
