San Angelo's Iconic Culinary Event Marks 50 Years: Taste of San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Taste of San Angelo, a longstanding annual West Texas culinary tradition, is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary next month, featuring samples from more than 30 local vendors, a live cake-decorating competition and special VIP options.

Hosted by the San Angelo Chapter of the Texas Restaurant Association (TRA), the event will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Spur Arena starting at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will have the chance to try a variety of dishes and drinks from area restaurants, caterers, breweries and distilleries, highlighting the region's diverse food scene.

The gathering brings together food professionals and enthusiasts from the Concho Valley to recognize the area's hospitality industry. Among the participating vendors are 1933 Whiskey Bar, South Concho Food Company, Morris Custom Catering, Cork & Pig, Arc Light, La Serena, and many more.

In honor of the milestone, the event will include a cake-decorating contest where local culinary students will compete in real time before the audience. Proceeds from ticket sales will support local industry programs and hospitality education efforts.

Olivia Kaminski, chair of the San Angelo Chapter of TRA, described the event as a community staple.

"For 50 years, Taste of San Angelo has been a place where our community comes together to celebrate the talent, creativity and hospitality that make our local food scene so special," she said. "This year’s milestone event is not just about sampling incredible food and drink, it’s about honoring the people and businesses who have helped build San Angelo’s culinary identity, and inspire the next generation of chefs, restaurateurs and food lovers."

Ticket options include general admission, which opens at 6:30 p.m., and VIP access starting earlier at 6 p.m. with perks like reserved seating and priority tastings. A limited number of VIP tables and sponsorship packages are still available and can be purchased online via Stubwire (individual tickets) or Zeffy (VIP tables and sponsorships).

The San Angelo Chapter represents the local foodservice community as part of the broader Texas Restaurant Association, advocating for operators, offering resources and promoting workforce development. The statewide association, founded in 1937, supports Texas' $138 billion restaurant industry, which includes over 57,000 locations and employs more than 1.4 million people.
