Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Warrant Payment Scam

SAN ANGELO, TX — The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a recurring phone scam in which callers impersonate deputies and claim individuals must pay to resolve outstanding warrants.

Officials said the Sheriff’s Office will never call and demand payment over the phone to clear warrants. The department asked residents not to engage with scammers and instead direct them to contact the Sheriff’s Office directly if they have questions.

Authorities emphasized that no payment should ever be made over the phone for warrants, fines, or related matters. The scam has circulated in the county before, targeting residents with false threats of arrest to coerce money.

The Sheriff’s Office advised the public to remain cautious, share the warning with others, and report suspicious calls.
