San Angelo Flood Survivors Receive New Campers

SAN ANGELO, TX — Samaritan’s Purse is supplying flood survivors in Tom Green and Kerr counties with new campers and vehicles as part of its ongoing disaster relief efforts.

The international Christian relief organization has distributed 25 new vehicles and set up 19 campers for families displaced by July’s deadly floods. More distributions are planned in the coming weeks, along with rebuilding homes and providing manufactured housing for those who lost everything.

“One of the greatest things about these gifts that we are giving to flood survivors is that they are paid in full,” said Tony Williamson, a Samaritan’s Purse staff member helping coordinate the effort.

Since July 8, volunteers have been working in flood-stricken neighborhoods to clean out homes, recover belongings, and provide temporary housing. Many residents remain without stable housing or transportation.

Among the recipients are Brittany and Leverne of San Angelo, whose home was severely damaged when nearly 15 inches of rain fell in a matter of hours on July 4. The couple was given a camper to live in while their property is restored. “You wouldn’t expect someone to go to these measures to help you, but Samaritan’s Purse doesn’t even know us and they care so much,” Brittany said.

Another recipient, Edward Mertz, lost his truck in the flooding but recently received a new vehicle from the organization. Mertz and his wife, Jennifer, both Marine veterans, had previously connected with Samaritan’s Purse through its Operation Heal Our Patriots program. “It’s nice to not be forgotten,” Mertz said.
