STANTON, TX — A 2.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded Monday west of Stanton, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The quake occurred at 12:58 p.m. about 8 miles west of Stanton at a depth of about 5.5 miles.
Stanton is located about 90 miles northwest of San Angelo.
There have been significantly more earthquakes in West Texas in recent years, which have often been attributed to oil and gas drilling.
No responses were recorded in the USGS “Did You Feel It?” survey as of Tuesday morning.
