SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State women’s tennis team begins its fall season Thursday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) South Central Regional in Tyler, Texas. The tournament, hosted by UT Tyler, runs through Saturday.
The Rambelles return three players from last year’s team that went 15-7 overall: Mary-June Quinn, Benedetta Raggiotti and sophomore Margaux Rene, who was named Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year after posting a 17-5 singles record, including a 4-0 mark from the No. 1 singles spot.
Angelo State also adds five newcomers: freshmen Danaiya Amangazhiyeva (Almaty, Kazakhstan), Jade Bestagno (Sainte Maxime, France) and Sasha Felixova (Sala, Slovakia), along with Anastasia Melnikova (Moscow, Russia) and Anna Waché (Paris, France).
Teams scheduled to compete in the ITA South Central Regional include Angelo State, CSU Pueblo, Texas A&M-Kingsville, UT Tyler, Midwestern State, Cameron, UT Dallas, UT Permian Basin and Lubbock Christian.
The five-round tournament begins with the round of 32 Thursday, followed by quarterfinals Friday and finals Saturday. Champions in singles and doubles will qualify for the ITA Cup, set for Oct. 10-12 in Rome, Georgia.
