San Angelo Elks to Hold Annual Free-Throw Shooting Contest

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Elks will hold their annual Hoop Shoot on Saturday, Nov. 22.

The free-throw shooting contest is open for children ages 8-13. Boys and girls will compete separately in three age groups — 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

If a child will be 8 on April 1, 2026 and will not turn 14 prior to April 1, they are eligible to complete.

The contest will be held at the YMCA, 353 S. Randolph St. Registration will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the contest at 1:30 p.m. 

One boy and one girl from each age group will advance to the district contest in San Antonio on Jan. 24. The Elks will help with travel expenses.

Winners from the district contest will advance to the state tournament in Carrollton, and those winners will advance to the area contest. Winners from there advance to the national contest in April, and those winners will have their names inscribed at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Nearly 3 million students from across the country entered last year’s competition.
