SONORA, TX — The 3rd Annual Jimmy Powers Memorial Steer Wrestling Jackpot will take place Nov. 14–16 in Sonora, offering $35,000 in added money and multiple events for both professional and youth competitors.
The main steer wrestling competition is a four-header, with one round on Friday, two on Saturday, and a final short-go on Sunday for the top 20 contestants. The entry fee is $500, with pre-entries open through Nov. 1. Events will begin Friday at 5 p.m. with a Calcutta, followed by competition starting at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The event is also an American Rodeo qualifier, with a $400 side pot available.
Youth events include 14 & Under Chute Dogging and 18 & Under Steer Wrestling. The chute dogging competition begins Friday at 8 a.m. with $1,000 added, while the youth steer wrestling follows later that morning with the same added purse. The top 10 in each youth division will advance to Saturday’s short round held between the second and third rounds of the main steer wrestling event.
A goat roping competition with $2,000 added will be held immediately following the steer wrestling on Saturday. Entry is $10 per person, and entries will remain open until filled.
