SAN ANGELO, TX — The Veribest and Water Valley volleyball teams will play in an all-Tom Green County regional final Friday.
Despite the fact the schools are only about 35 miles apart, the match will be played more than 250 miles away from San Angelo in Midlothian, which is outside Dallas.
The Region I-1A championship match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at Midlothian High School.
No. 7-ranked Veribest has won all three meetings with No. 10 Water Valley this year, but the last two matches during district play were each five–setters. Veribest had a two-set win back in August.
Veribest has dropped only one set during its playoff run, which happened Tuesday in the Lady Falcons’ four-set win over No. 5 Klondike. Veribest prevailed in a 25-20, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22 battle.
Water Valley has won three consecutive playoff matches that were four-setters, including Tuesday’s 18-25, 25-12, 25-16, 25-21 win over No. 9 Buena Vista.
Along with Wall, which is playing in the Class 3A Division II state semifinals Saturday against Boyd, Tom Green County has three volleyball teams still alive in the playoffs.
