SAN ANGELO, TX — District rivals Water Valley and Robert Lee will meet again next week, this time in the state quarterfinals.
The two state powers each earned big wins Friday in their second-round playoff games. No. 2-ranked Water Valley topped No. 9 Newcastle 64-29, while No. 6 Robert Lee rolled past Valley 63-6.
Water Valley had a surprisingly lopsided 67-30 win over Robert Lee when they met during the regular season to give the Wildcats the district title. The game was delayed by heavy rain earlier in the night.
It is the only time either team has lost this season.
It is not yet known when and where Water Valley (12-0) and Robert Lee (11-1) will meet next week.
Water Valley reached the state semifinals last year for the first time in program history.
Robert Lee won its first playoff game since 2012 last week, and now the Steers have two playoff trophies in the last eight days. Robert Lee hasn’t played in the state quarterfinals since 1984.
