SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State football team had its second quarterback enter the NCAA transfer portal recently with Kaeden Smith joining Braeden Fuller.
Smith and Fuller split the majority of reps at QB this season, but both could now be on the way out.
Smith made the announcement Thursday on X, thanking ASU, his coaches and teammates. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
The Manvel High School product was 44-of-91 passing for 598 yards and 10 touchdowns with two interceptions. He also had 56 carries for 328 yards and three TDs.
The remaining quarterbacks on ASU’s roster include freshman Ayden Arp from Cedar Park and freshman Maddox Maher from Dripping Springs. Arp saw limited action last season, going 22-of-37 passing for 316 yards and five TDs with one INT.
Sophomore running back Chad Pharies from Frenship is also a possibility after previously playing QB.
Other ASU football players who have entered the transfer portal include Xavier Walton, who was recently named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Back of the Year, wide receiver Corey Sandolph and linebacker Nathan Morcom.
One year after going 9-3 and winning the LSC title, ASU struggled down the stretch this season to a 6-5 record.
