SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man has been arrested for threatening to decapitate his girlfriend with an axe.
Roger Villarreal, 32, was arrested by the San Angelo Police Department for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to court documents, on Nov. 24, 2025, the investigator was contacted over the phone by the San Angelo Emergency Dispatch and informed him of a domestic assault that occurred at the Bella Vista Apartments, 4125 Ben Ficklin Road.
The investigator responded to the incident location and met with an officer who informed him the victim was on scene. The officer also stated that he was sent to one of the apartments where the victim informed him that her live-in boyfriend assaulted her.
The boyfriend, identified as Villarreal, was detained in the back of a police unit.
The victim informed the officer that during the assault, Villarreal grabbed a small axe and threatened to behead her. The officer observed fresh scratches on the victim’s neck.
When the investigator spoke with the victim, she said that Villarreal was arguing earlier in the evening and that he had been drinking alcohol. The victim said Villarreal has a temper when he drinks and that they were arguing over who was going to pay the bills. They also argued about an upcoming vacation that the victim was planning.
After the argument, she said Villarreal grabbed a small axe and began swinging it around in the air. He then allegedly told the victim he was going to cut her head off. The victim said she attempted to leave the apartment when Villarreal grabbed her around the neck and threw her on the couch.
The victim was able to hide the axe under some clothes.
The investigator observed small droplets of blood on the living room floor and blood on the wall by the front door, along with broken clothes hangers, and fresh scratches on the victim. When she had a moment, the victim was able to run out of the apartment to a neighbor's home and called 911.
A search warrant was obtained, and the small axe allegedly used in the assault was found under some clothes on the couch.
Villarreal was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Nov. 25, 2025, for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is currently being held on $50,000 bond.
