LAS VEGAS, NV — San Angelo cowboy Dylan Hancock tied for first place Friday in Round 2 of tie-down roping at the National Finals Rodeo.
In doing so, he moved into third place in the overall standings.
Hancock roped his calf in a time of 7.8 seconds, which tied with Stephenville’s Marty Yates and Clovis, New Mexico’s Shad Mayfield. They all earned $29,177 for the night’s work.
Hancock now has $211,281.13 in season earnings, but he’ll be hard-pressed to move up from third place, because it’s a two-man race between Riley Webb and Mayfield for the title.
Webb has $333,761.88, while Mayfield is right behind him with $332,154.60.
San Angelo’s Joel Harris followed up his second-place showing Thursday with a sixth-place finish Friday. He earned $5,914 but fell back one spot into seventh place.
The third San Angelo cowboy competing, Ty Harris, struggled again with a time of 14.6 seconds that leaves him in 13th place in the 15-man field.
Round 3 of the 10-round NFR continues Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
