Texas Tech Commit Shatters Legendary Rushing Record in Texas

 

MOUNT ENTERPRISE, TX— The 72-year-old rushing record has been broken by a Mount Enterprise running back.

All football season long, the Concho Valley was rooting for Ozona running back Christian Villarreal who was on pace to break Kenneth Hall’s Texas state rushing record of 4,045 yards. The senior back fell just short in the Bi-District round of the playoffs with 3,667 yards.

But, in the State Quarterfinals, Mount Enterprise’s Keagan Ash, who broke the Texas record on a 36-yard touchdown run. Now, the record has been reset to 4,332 yards as Ash added 501 rushing yards to his total.

Kenneth Hall, the Sugar Land Express, held the record for 72 years.

Not only did Ash break the Texas single season rushing record, but he also broke the national and Texas single season touchdown record. The national record was held by Kazmeir Allen of Tulare Union in California who scored 72 touchdowns and the Texas record was held by Jonathan Grey (Aledo) who scored 65 touchdowns according to Dave Campbell’s magazine.

So far, Ash has been an absolute monster and has 4,900 all-purpose yards and 76 total touchdowns in his senior season.

According to Maxpreps, Ash has played varisty football since his freshman season where he carried the ball 258 times for 2,023 yards and 26 touchdowns. He did even better the next season when he rushed for 2,837 yards and 38 touchdowns. In his junior year, he has his worst season rushing the ball… with 1,960 yards and 32 scores.

Then, of course, he has played in 14 games so far this season and has 4,322 yards and 67 rushing touchdowns. For his high school career so far, Ash has accumulated 11,142 yards and 163 touchdowns.

He is committed to playing at Texas Tech.

In Round 4, Mount Enterprise beat Bremond in a shootout, 64-58. Ash had 503 rushing yards, 102 receiving yards, and 8 total touchdowns. and will face the Shiner Comanches next week in the State Semifinals.
