San Angelo’s Joel Harris Ties for 2nd Place in Round 8 at National Finals Rodeo

LAS VEGAS, NV — San Angelo tie-down roper Joel Harris continued his stellar run at the National Finals Rodeo on Thursday by tying for second place in Round 8.

Harris had won back-to-back rounds heading into the night, and he now has three second-place finishes to go along with those wins.

Harris roped his calf in 7.5 seconds, tying with Louisiana cowboy Shane Hanchey. Each earned $25,431.

Harris began the NFR in 14th place in the 15-man field, but he has soared up the standings while collecting more than $156,000 in prize money.

However, he dropped from third to fourth in the overall standings after Mount Pleasant’s Kincade Henry won Round 8 in 7.0 seconds to nudge past him.

Henry has $320,916.27 in season earnings, while Harris has $313,495.06.

Denton’s Riley Webb ($417,743.12) remains the leader with two rounds to go after his sixth-place showing Thursday. The only man who can catch him is Clovis, New Mexico’s Shad Mayfield ($388,930.78).

San Angelo’s other two competitors in the event finished out of the money in Round 8. Ty Harris was 12th in 11.4 seconds, while Dylan Hancock was 13th in 14.2

Hancock is sixth in the overall standings with $248,540.49. Ty Harris is 13th with $176,767.47.

The 10-round NFR will continue with Round 9 on Friday night at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
