SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo ISD Superintendent Dr. Chris Moran announced Thursday that the administration and Board of Trustees remain committed to closing two more elementary schools by the summer of 2027.
Moran didn’t specify which schools could be closed, but he had previously mentioned Reagan and Bowie as potential candidates during a school board meeting earlier this year.
The decision to close two more schools was being made due to continued declining enrollment, Moran said.
SAISD has already closed Alta Loma, Austin and San Jacinto elementary schools in the last year, reducing the current number to 14.
SAISD’s elementary schools are currently Belaire, Bonham, Bowie, Bradford, Crockett, Fannin, Fort Concho, Glenmore, Goliad, Holiman, Lamar, McGill, Reagan and Santa Rita.
Moran said the spring 2026 semester will include a committee of SAISD parents, leaders and employees engaging in work to evaluate elementary school attendance boundaries.
“The goal of the committee is to provide a recommendation to the Board of Trustees by Summer 2026 for new elementary attendance zones, effective July 1, 2027,” he stated.
