SAN ANGELO, TX — Kinetic energy is half the mass times velocity squared, we all learned in physics class. That formula was proven yet again just before lunch today on S. Bryant at Jackson where a truck tractor pulling a sand wagon slammed into two passenger vehicles parked at a red light.
According to San Angelo police, the sand truck was headed south on Bryant. As the big truck approached the intersection of S. Jackson St., the driver realized too late that the cars were stopped awaiting a red light.
The trucker slammed on his brakes, and realizing the mass was too heavy and his speed too great to stop in time, attempted to split the difference between two vehicles side-by-side in two southbound lanes.
Both cars were struck.
The truck driver was cited for failure to control speed, police said.
There were no major injuries, except the two passenger vehicles—one a Toyota and the other a Ford sedan—were badly damaged.
