SAN ANGELO, TX — If you hear some loud explosions on Sunday morning, don’t be alarmed! Fort Concho will be hosting two Living History Training Programs at Fort Concho this weekend.
The School of the Piece will cover all the required training for the safe firing of all types of late-1800s artillery pieces on Sunday morning. These pieces include cannons, howitzers, and mortars. The firing of the pieces is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to approximately 11:30 a.m., on Sunday.
The public is welcome to watch the on-field non-firing practices that will be held on Saturday afternoon and the firing of the pieces on Sunday morning.
The Ladies Living History Symposium will cover the life of women on the western frontier. Sessions will be given on clothing, food, and interpretation techniques to give volunteers a better idea of how women shared the hardships with soldiers at Texas military posts in the 1800’s.
All events are open to the public at no charge. All events will be in the fort’s Offices’ Quarter 8 and the Chapel.
Come join the fun at Fort Concho this weekend!
