ABILENE, TX-- The Abilene Zoo is mourning the death of its Bengal tiger Havar on Friday.
Havar died Friday morning at 18-20 years old, as reported by KTXS.
The zoo doesn't feel there is anything suspicious about the tiger's death, but believe his advanced age was the cause.
“We are devastated. Our animal care team was with him conducting their early morning routine when he died. He was such an incredible tiger and was loved by us all,” said Zoo Veterinarian Dr. Stephanie Carle.
Havar came to the Abilene Zoo in 2009 after being rescued and donated by a private individual.
Roughly 4,000 Bengal tigers remain on Earth, leading the species to be classified as endangered.
