SAN ANGELO, TX — The 2025 San Angelo Stock Show Premium Sale took place at the Spur Arena on the afternoon of Saturday, April 19, 2025 and broke a new record. The sale began with the Top 8 winners from the stock show that was held earlier in February. In 2020, the stock show and rodeo were held separately due to the pandemic. The rodeo, which had been held concurrently with the stock show in February since 1932, was, in 2020, postponed until public health officials deemed it safe to resume.
The April rodeo seemed like a good idea, so since then, the rodeo and the premium sale have been held in early April, benefiting from better weather for the carnival and avoiding conflicts with the Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth rodeos. This is why you'll see no animals at this premium sale as they are long gone to market in February at the conclusion of the livestock show.
The premium sale is the way high school and younger contestants in the livestock show are rewarded. The auctioneers at the premium sale sold off 222 lots, or animals, with the proceeds benefitting each contestant. Some will use their money for college and others may use their money to purchase a new animal to compete next year.
The total spent on all 222 lots was $1.25 million. For the top eight winning contestants, buyers at the San Angelo Premium Sale spent over $160,000. The Grand Champion Steer, shown by Aniston Floyd of the Denver City FFA, fetched $52,000, a figure auction officials believe may be a record for the San Angelo Grand Champion Steer, though this remains unconfirmed.
The buyers for each of the Top 8 winners of the stock show are as follows:
