AUSTIN, TX — Reagan County had three entrants at the Class 2A state track meet Saturday, and the Owls cashed that in for a third-place finish in the team standings.
Reagan County’s 4x100 relay brought home the gold medal in a time of 41.64 seconds, while the Owls’ 4x200 relay was third in 1:28.13.
The relay members were Omrie Johnson, Kason Brown, Chris Johnson and Nick Franklin.
Brown was also second place in the 200-meter dash. His time of 21.55 seconds was just .01 seconds behind the winning time of Hawley’s Francis Patanpatan.
Those three finishes gave Reagan County a medal of every color and 40 points in the team standings.
Only Tioga (70) and Hawley (62) had more points in the race for the boys team title.
Junction’s Aidan Cardwell also gave the Concho Valley a gold medal with his win in the 300 hurdles in a time of 39.18 seconds, which was 1.59 seconds ahead of second place.
Junction’s Grant Simon was third in the pole vault at 14-6 to give the Eagles an 11th place finish in the team standings.
Mason was fourth as a team with 26 points. The Punchers’ 4x200 relay was second, while their 4x400 relay was fourth. Cooper Ratliff also had a fifth-place finish in the 3200.
Sonora’s Kam Aguero was sixth in the 400.
On the girls’ side, Mason’s 4x400 relay took third place. On Friday, Christoval’s Khloe Bolander was fourth in the pole vault before rain pushed the evening’s running events to Saturday.
