Former President Joe Biden Diagnosed With Advanced Prostate Cancer

WASHINGTON, D.C.— Former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with an advanced form of prostate cancer.

Biden’s office made the announcement in a statement that reads:

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.

While this represents a more aggressive form of disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.

The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris said in a post on X:

“Doug and I are saddened to learn of President Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis. We are keeping him, Dr. (Jill) Biden, and their entire family in our hearts and prayers during this time. Joe is a fighter– and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership. We are hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.”

Former President Barack Obama issued a statement on X as well.

“Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.”

Biden has also said:

“Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer and is usually found early and grows slowly. Prostate cancer that spreads is more difficult to cure, but there are still options available.

Symptoms include but are not limited to blood in the urine and semen, needing to urinate more often, waking up to urinate more often, and difficulty urinating.

Older men, usually between the ages of 55-69, should discuss being screened for prostate cancer.
