Shannon, BCBSTX Finalize Deal to Keep Services In-Network

SAN ANGELO, TX — Patients with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) insurance can continue receiving in-network care at Shannon Medical Center without interruption after the two organizations finalized a new agreement.

The announcement, made Thursday morning, resolves concerns raised by an April notice from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, which warned that Shannon Medical Center and its South Campus could be removed from the HealthSelect of Texas and Consumer Directed HealthSelect networks if no agreement was reached before May 23. Without a deal, the facilities would have been considered out-of-network starting May 23, potentially leading to higher out-of-pocket costs for patients.

“Patients with BCBSTX health insurance plans can continue to receive uninterrupted, in-network access to care at Shannon Medical Center,” the hospital stated. “Our patients will always be our first priority, and our goal is to ensure everyone has access to the highest-quality, lifesaving care at home in their community."

The previous notice, shared by BCBSTX on April 24, had advised patients of possible disruptions and outlined options for continuity of care in cases of serious illness, pregnancy, or ongoing treatment.

Shannon officials thanked patients for their trust and emphasized that the agreement was part of an effort to “provide better care in a changing healthcare environment.”
