San Angelo’s Robert E. Lee Middle School will keep Confederate General's Name

SAN ANGELO, TX -- San Angelo’s Robert E. Lee Middle School will keep its name.  The school is named for Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

San Angelo ISD Communications Director Derrick Jackson said in an email Friday, “I haven’t heard anything on talks of a name change for that school or anything like that….(there’s)  nothing on my radar about it as of today.”

Last month, Midland ISD removed the song “Dixie” from the Midland Lee High School fight song.

And the University of Texas at Austin has removed Confederate statues from its campus.

Across the country Confederate symbols are being removed, but not here in San Angelo.

UPDATE 8/9/2017 8:00 a.m.

Crews in Dallas are preparing to remove a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee.

Trying to start THAT fire here at home huh?

It has to remain named after a treacherous member of the military. We cannot forget his disdain for the Constitution and rule of law. If we wipe it away and forget it, another two bit failed military commander will be emboldened into treachery.

I know he took up arms against the United States of America. Guilty of treason, as all who do are.

Think Salty is just parroting what he's heard from some anarchist running their mouth trying to rewrite history.

So Robert E. Lee did not take up arms against the United States of America? After all these years, who would have thought the history books were wrong?

He is a traitor, as is anyone else who takes up arms against the United States of America. Plain and simple.

Before the war opposed secession, offered command of all Union forces, could not take up arms against his native Virginia.
After the war, was given a full pardon, was president of Washington and Lee University, was the most beloved Christian man in the South and admired by many in the North.

Call it what you will, make his treachery glamorous even. The fact is, he took up arms against the United States of America, period!

The solution to this non-problem is simple. Swap names with another loser from US history to satisfy the dimwits that are soooooo emotionally connected to their alma mater's name (probably the highest level of education many of them probably reached?).
Use a standard short list so these folks can go focus their mental gymnastics elsewhere.
Robert Hanssen? Custer? Benedect Arnold?
