Grass Fire Destroys 26 Vehicles Near Highway 208 North

SAN ANGELO, TX - A grass fire that started from a previously burned debris pile destroyed 26 abandoned vehicles Saturday near Highway 208 North, the Quail Valley Volunteer Fire Department reported. 

The blaze also damaged eight abandoned vehicles, eight trailers, two RVs and one tractor on the property where it began, according to the department. The fire spread to a neighboring property, where firefighters saved three workshops, three vehicles and one occupied residence. Numerous other vehicles and equipment at the origin site were undamaged. 

Firefighters from the Quail Valley, East Concho, Grape Creek and Robert Lee volunteer fire departments, along with the Texas A&M Forest Service, responded to the fire. The department thanked the mutual-aid crews for their quick response. 

Crews were mopping up by 6:20. Motorists were advised at 4:50 p.m. Saturday to avoid Highway 208 North because of the fire.
