VIDEO: AEP Crews Work to Restore Power Following Outage Near Rust and Highland

SAN ANGELO, TX — Crews with AEP Texas worked through Monday morning to restore power to thousands of homes in San Angelo after severe weather led to a fire and a downed transmission line near Rust Street and Highland Boulevard.

According to AEP Texas outage maps, the widespread outage began around 9 a.m. Crews were dispatched and had restored most power just before 10 a.m. Upwards of 20,000 customers were without power during the peak of the outage.

Fred Hernandez, who oversees AEP operations in the San Angelo region, said the fire was likely caused by wires becoming tangled and sparking due to the weather. He added that it was too early to determine the exact cause and did not want to speculate further.

A downed power line on Rust Street also contributed to delays in restoring power to nearby homes.

AEP crews remain on-site to complete repairs.
