TUSCOLA, TX — A Brady man remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after fleeing from a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper and crashing a stolen pickup in Tuscola early Tuesday, authorities stated.
DPS identified the driver as Jeremy Clarence Morgan, 29, of Brady. Investigators later determined the white Ford work pickup he was driving had been reported stolen out of Concho County earlier in the day.
Morgan faces multiple charges related to the incident, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest or detention in a vehicle, unlawfully carrying a weapon, and possession of marijuana. DPS said criminal charges will be filed when, and if, he recovers from his injuries.
The chase began around 6 a.m. when a trooper attempted to stop Morgan for a traffic violation on U.S. 83, near the south side of Tuscola. Instead of stopping, Morgan fled north at a high rate of speed, DPS stated.
He lost control in a curve, left the roadway, traveled through a drainage ditch, and entered the Lowe’s grocery store parking lot. The pickup struck several objects, overturned, and came to rest on nearby railroad tracks.
Morgan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the truck and transported to Hendrick Hospital with incapacitating injuries, according to DPS.
