The Devil Robs the Christian Store

SAN ANGELO, TX — A man walked into the Christians in Action thrift store at 1505 S. Chadbourne St., found some suitcases and some other items he wanted to have, and pulled a knife demanding the store clerk give him those items, police said. The stick up didn’t last long, however. When the store employees called the police, he fled without the suitcases.

Working on a hastily-made description of the suspect, San Angelo police went out to search for a white male with a dark top and tan pants. After converging on the area, police quickly located their suspect hiding in an alleyway behind the Super 8 Motel. He was arrested without incident for a parole violation and for not paying his City of San Angelo fines.

While police believed they had their man, the police confirmed his identity at the Christians in Action store with footage from the video surveillance system at the store. Police called in the Criminal Investigations Division to further investigate.

Lt. Mike Hernandez of the police department said the suspect may have charges for armed robbery after the CID investigation is complete later today. Hernandez said there were no injuries.

“In the meantime, expect the suspect to show up in the jail logs for his blue warrant and City warrants,” Hernandez said.

The suspect is 30 years old, Hernandez said. Hernandez said by tomorrow morning police should be complete with the investigation and could charge him with the robbery.

According to its website, Christians in Action is a thrift store that has served the region since 1982 The non-profit’s mission is to “reflect Christ by uniting individuals and participating churches in an outreach ministry to aid those with financial, physical and spiritual needs and to win souls for Christ.”
