Man Charged With Murder After Fatal Abilene Shooting

 

ABILENE, TX — A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after a woman was found shot to death inside a South Abilene apartment late Saturday night, police said.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. June 28 to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Ivanhoe. Inside, they discovered 24-year-old Aleisha Cabrera dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Steven Pena, identified as the suspect, was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Taylor County Jail. He faces a charge of first-degree felony murder, according to police.

Authorities said Cabrera and Pena were a couple. Their young daughter was home during the incident and has been placed with Child Protective Services.

The investigation remains ongoing.
