Social Media Influencer Killed by Suicidal Husband

HONOLULU, HI — A shocking incident occurred at a shopping center in Honolulu, Hawaii, where Theresa Cachuela, a 33-year-old social media influencer, was tragically shot and killed by her estranged husband, Jason Cachuela, 44, in the presence of their young daughter. The ordeal ended with Jason taking his own life.

The devastating event unfolded as Theresa was heading for breakfast with her daughter on Friday, met by her estranged husband who fatally shot her, leaving their child to witness the horrifying scene. Theresa, known to have approximately 20,000 Instagram followers, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to local law enforcement.

Honolulu Police Department Lieutenant Deena Thoemmes emphasized that the incident was not a random act, clarifying that the victim and suspect had been in a relationship.

Reports revealed that Theresa had previously filed and was granted a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Jason. Allegations in the TRO petition indicated threats of self-harm made by Jason while their daughter was present. Further details mentioned instances where Jason brandished a knife, causing distress to Theresa.

The agreement resulting from the TRO mandated Jason to surrender his firearms, which were subsequently retrieved by law enforcement officers when the TRO was served.

Speaking to the media, Lucita Ani-Nihoa, Cachuela's mother, expressed the trauma experienced by her youngest granddaughter, who witnessed the tragic event. Ani-Nihoa highlighted her daughter's efforts to seek help through the justice system, which she believes ultimately failed Theresa.

Relatives disclosed that Theresa had confided in them about enduring abuse from her husband, leading to the filing of the TRO due to persistent harassment and stalking. Jason's attorney, Michael Green, denied any history of violent threats against Theresa and their children, emphasizing the visitation agreement between the couple.

Cachuela's family, devastated by the loss, set up a GoFundMe page to gather donations for her funeral expenses, expressing their anguish over the failure of the justice system to protect Theresa.

In reflection, Theresa's cousin, Terrell Scott, remembered her as a devoted mother and business owner, emphasizing her dedication to her children and her loving nature.

The tragic death of Theresa Cachuela has brought to light concerns about the efficacy of legal measures in protecting victims of domestic abuse, leaving her family grieving and seeking solace amid a heartbreaking loss.
