Abilene Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges, Worked at Local Youth Organization

ABILENE, TX — A 39-year-old Abilene man was arrested Wednesday on child pornography charges following a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the Abilene Police Department.

Joel Michael Paris was taken into custody by APD’s Cyber Crimes Unit with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations. Authorities said Paris was arrested at his place of employment, Big Brothers Big Sisters, located at 547 Chestnut St. in Abilene.

Paris faces a second-degree felony charge for Promotion of Child Pornography under Texas Penal Code § 43.26. The charge stems from a video reportedly depicting juvenile females between the ages of 12 and 14 engaging in sexual conduct, which was uploaded via Discord.

A search warrant was executed at Paris’s residence prior to his arrest. He was booked into the Taylor County Jail.

Police are urging anyone with information about this case or who may have had questionable contact with Paris to contact the Cyber Crimes Unit at 325-676-6610.
