Texas Man Dies After Road Rage Shooting in Georgia

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. – Authorities in Troup County have arrested a man in connection with a deadly road rage incident that left a Texas man dead.

The Troup County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a possible vehicle accident around 4 p.m. July 30 on Interstate 85 near the 11-mile marker. They found a vehicle in the median and the driver, identified as 64-year-old Richard Hawk of Texas, unresponsive and bleeding.

Hawk was removed from the vehicle and taken to Wellstar West Georgia, where he died after it was discovered he had been shot in the head.

A witness told officials they saw road rage behavior between two vehicles on the interstate and reported a tag number and description to West Point Police. Officers later found the second vehicle in West Point and detained a suspect.

The suspect, 23-year-old Nytorian Allen, was transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes.

Because of the investigation’s proximity, West Point Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown, which was lifted a short time later.
